PlateitForward

Enabling Communities
Transforming Lives
Serving Social Change One Meal At A Time

PlateitForward is a multi-faceted, community-driven organisation providing food, cooking lessons, kitchen training, qualifications, employment and confidence to Sydney’s disadvantaged community members.

As a Non-For-Profit Hospitality group, our programs facilitate sustainable pathways of job creation and long-term education outcomes in community and training, enabling marginalised communities to thrive. PlateitForward run a multi-pronged approach to their model which includes a catering company, a training school, a Community Kitchen, as well as best-in-class venues providing skills, experience and education to those in need.

PlateitForward recognises that cycles of employment and opportunity are necessary to the thriving future of vulnerable communities. Our programs encourage ongoing relationships and community consultations built on trust, so that individuals have the support, resilience and skills to empower themselves and their communities.

PlateitForward hire community members with lived experience to run their meal donation program, serving up to 1,000 restaurant quality meals a week to individuals doing it tough. To date, PlateitForward have trained and hired 30 members from Indigenous and Asylum Seeker communities and residents of Redfern’s social housing projects, have provided 8,000 hours of employment and training to these people, and donated over 65,000 restaurant quality meals to local communities.

All funds from the Third I Festival will go into paid traineeships for budding Indigenous chefs, and for the creation of restaurant-quality meals for those in need.
